SWARM! (Student Writers and Readers Meet!) is a new network of youth writing groups across the State of Maine that meet virtually. This past summer, young writers between the ages of 10 and 18 wrote and shared their stories in small writing groups (The “Hives”), each virtually led by a trained teaching artist and Telling Room student guest authors. In their writing, students explored what it meant to be a kid or teen in Maine right now. Our first SWARM! publication is now available as docu-videos (like the one seen here), a book, and an ebook publication.

SWARM! 2020-21 is made possible by the thoughtful and generous support of many individual donors, private and public foundations, corporate partners, and government entities including, in part, by grants from the Maine Bicentennial Commission and the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition, this project is funded in part by grants from the Jane B. Cook 1992 Charitable Trust, the Literary Arts Emergency Fund, the Moser Family Foundation, the Old Bug Light Charitable Foundation, the Rona Jaffe Foundation, the Sam L. Cohen Foundation, the Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation, and WEX. This project is also supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. We thank you all.
