-Bayonetta 3 Review-
It’s a franchise that’s never received a whole lot of attention from the general gaming audience. But the games are highly regarded by those who’ve played them.
The first two both reviewed super well, and the Switch has been an overwhelming success. But I was surprised to see how many people were hyped about Bayonetta 3.
Now it’s out, I’ve had the chance to play through it, and I have to say: this may be the strongest Bayonetta game yet. But in many ways, it’s also the weakest.
With its combat and over-the-top spectacle, Bayonetta 3 reaches new heights. It’s never been more exhilarating than this. The new summon mechanic feels perfectly at home: like it should have been there the whole time.
Unfortunately, though, the game is quite disjointed. The stealth sections, where you play as Jeanne, feel out of place and aren’t much fun. And, although the combat mechanics in the Viola sections are fine, they pale in comparison to fighting as Bayonetta.
There is A LOT of fun to be had in Bayonetta 3. But, for every step the game takes forward, it also takes a step back. Instead of eclipsing its predecessors, the game ends up averaging out to be just another solid Bayonetta game.
